It’s one of those spots that makes you forget you’re still in Southern California – the air is crisp, the trees actually change color, and everywhere you look, someone’s carrying a bag of apples and a warm donut.

Whether you’re chasing fall vibes, a little mountain escape, or the best apple pie you’ll ever have, here’s exactly how to spend a perfect fall day in Oak Glen!

  • If you’re coming from LA or Orange County, plan to leave early – around 7AM is perfect. Most of Oak Glen’s farms open 9-10AM, and mornings are the best time to beat the crowds (and grab those fresh donuts straight out of the fryer).
• How Much Time Should You Spend There?
  • You only need 5 – 6 hours total to hit all the highlights, which makes Oak Glen an ideal half- or full-day trip depending on how long you linger.
• Best Time To Visit?
  • The best time to visit is mid to late October, when the leaves are changing and apple season is in full swing. Early fall (late September) still has great weather but fewer crowds, while November brings chillier temps and limited U-pick availability.
• Weekends vs. Weekdays?
  • Weekends: Festive and lively, with live music, hayrides, and the corn maze open — but also the busiest. Arrive early to find parking and avoid lines.
  • Weekdays: Quieter and more relaxed, perfect for photos and exploring at your own pace, though a few spots (like the corn maze or BBQ stands) may be closed.

The Perfect Oak Glen Fall One-Day Itinerary (9AM – 4PM)

A cozy, half-to-full-day itinerary that hits all the best stops – apple picking, cider tasting, and everything in between. Plan to leave around 7AM to make it to your first stop around 9AM!

9:00AM: Start at Snow-Line Orchard

Details: Cider donuts, fresh cider, and the best morning views.

Kick off your morning at Snow-Line Orchard, the most iconic first stop in Oak Glen. The air smells like cinnamon sugar, the mountain light is perfect for photos, and the donuts come out fresh & warm from the fryer. Grab a bag of apple cider mini donuts and a cup of fresh-pressed cider (hot or cold – you can’t go wrong). The mini donuts are doughy & light, with a touch of apple flavoring – literally the most perfect bite to have with this fall backdrop.

Be prepared for a decently long line, though – even at exactly 9AM, when they open, you’ll find the line wrapped around the building.

Take a few minutes to wander through the vineyard and apple rows before the crowds roll in, then browse the shop for jams, cider bottles, and local wine. In store, they typically have a few juices and apples to sample, too!

Pro tip: They open at 9AM, and donuts tend to sell out later in the day – get there early to ensure you get a taste! Also, bring a small cooler if you plan to take home cider or perishable treats.

9:45AM: Apple Picking at Los Rios Rancho & Village Shops

Next up is Los Rios Rancho, Oak Glen’s largest and most popular apple orchard. Each week, they post which apples are ripe for picking – so varieties change throughout fall. During our October visit, we picked Fujis and Pink Ladies, and Granny Smiths were also available.

Depending on the season, Los Rios also offers other U-pick crops – like chestnuts, berries, or tomatoes – so it’s worth checking their website or asking at the farm stand when you arrive. You can choose what you’d prefer to pick that day at the U-Pick stands, and they’ll provide the correct bags for you. Each varietal has a different per weight price.

Try to park in the main southern lot – it’s an easier walk to either orchard (north or south side) but parking does fill up quickly, so try to arrive a bit earlier than the U-Pick opening at 10AM. This lot also connects directly to the Oak Glen Preserve Trailhead, perfect to explore after picking. The Pond Trail is a short, peaceful 15- to 20-minute loop surrounded by oak trees and rolling hills if you want to stretch your legs a bit.

They also have a few other fun activities on property like the huge pumpkin patch – literally grown on the vine pumpkins that you can’t find in the city – and the corn maze right above the pumpkin patch. Note that the corn maze does cost additional to check out.

If you get hungry early, there’s also a small village area at Los Rios that serves breakfast sandwiches and coffee in the morning before the BBQ and cider stands open – perfect if you arrive right before 10AM and want to fuel up before hitting the orchard.

After filling your bags, spend some time browsing the Village Shops at Los Rios, a small cluster of rustic wooden cabins selling local honey, apple butter, and handmade gifts.

12:00PM: Hard Cider Flight at Oak Glen Cider Co. (on Los Rios Property)

Details: Local ciders – sweet, seasonal, and best enjoyed under the trees.

Walk over to Oak Glen Cider Co., located on the Southern side of the Los Rios property, for your first cider tasting. The outdoor patio has picnic tables, string lights, and mountain views – a perfect mid-morning break after apple picking. If you end up there at peak time, there may be a slight wait, but we didn’t find it to be too bad.

We split a flight for $15 and added in an extra one to try the Arkansas Black cider. Most were a bit too sweet for me, though. The standard flight comes with four tastings – two reds and two whites – a Raspberry cider, Strawberry cider, Tangerine Mimosa and Rootstock cider. I found the two lighter ciders were my favorite – the Rootstock was perfectly crisp and the Arkansas Black was balanced and refreshing.

1:00PM: Lunch & Exploring at Riley’s Farm

Details: BBQ plates, mead, and a step back in time

Riley’s Farm ended up being one of the most charming stops of the day. This colonial-style working farm feels like you’ve stepped back in time – complete with costumed staff, rustic buildings, and farm animals roaming the property.

We grabbed lunch at their BBQ restaurant, which had hearty plates and picnic-style dining under the trees and inside their main dining hall that hosts live music. The ribs, potato salad, and coleslaw were all hits, but the cornbread was just okay. If you’re up for a drink, try the mead they have for sale at the bar – it’s surprisingly delicious (get the apple cinnamon one!) but very strong at 19% ABV, so pace yourself if you’re driving.

After lunch, stay for a bit to explore some of the other offerings at Riley’s Farm:

• U-pick apples and berries (check their seasonal schedule online)
• Living history reenactments and themed events like colonial dinners or harvest festivals
• Bakery & store with pies, jams, and handcrafted goods
• Farm animals where you can pet the goats on property
• Open-air games and photo ops around the property

It’s a fun and laid-back place to wander after lunch, one of Oak Glen’s most character-filled spots.

2:30PM: Head to Oak Tree Mountain Village for Apple Annie’s & More

Wrap up your Oak Glen day at Oak Tree Mountain Village, a rustic outdoor plaza filled with shops, treats, and the famous Apple Annie’s Restaurant & Bakery. The area feels like a mini fall festival – pumpkins, wooden barrels, and the smell of fresh pie floating through the air.

If you’re hungry again or didn’t eat earlier, you can wait in line to sit down at Apple Annie’s restaurant or hop in the other line to order from the bakery counter next door for just desserts. The lunch menu offers a cozy, homestyle menu with soups, pot pies, and sandwiches. And, you must try their famous 5lb Mile High Apple Pie – get a slice topped with ice cream at the restaurant or grab in a box at the bakery.

If the lines are long (and they usually are by the afternoon), and you already had a full meal like us, you can actually skip straight to the to-go pie counter and avoid the lines. It’s around the side of the building and usually has no line at all. You can grab a whole mile-high apple pie to take home and enjoy later with friends or family.

After grabbing your pie, wander through Oak Tree Mountain Village to explore the other shops. Don’t miss Pops & Drops Candy Store, packed with caramel apples, taffy, cotton candy, chocolates, and a massive selection of vintage sodas – it’s a sweet, nostalgic way to end your fall day.

Pro tip: The village has tons of cute photo spots, especially in October when it’s decked out in pumpkins and fall décor.

4:00PM: Head Home

By now, you’ll have done it all – apple picking, cider tastings, BBQ, pie, and plenty of sugar. It’s time to say goodbye to the cutest fall town. Pending traffic, expect to be back in LA or OC around 5:30 – 6PM.

• Parrish Pioneer Ranch: A quieter stop with local jams, ciders, and country décor. It’s a great alternative to the busier orchards.
• Snow-Line Orchard Wine & Hard Cider: If you didn’t fit this in earlier, stop by for bottled hard cider tastings or a glass of local wine before heading home. They have a speciality apple wine cider that’s supposedly quite good!
• Stay Overnight: Book a cozy cabin or Airbnb nearby if you want to turn it into a weekend getaway – fall sunsets up here are worth it.
